Wendy Smedley sits down with other employees of FamilySearch to give you the inside information on storytelling and an exciting new experience. Courtney Connolly, Grant Skousen, and Mike Sandberg give their thoughts, opinions, and share experiences about storytelling and their ancestors.

Grant Skousen works in the design behind FamilySearch.org. He explains how story is ultimately the base of your family tree because it allows you to connect with your ancestors.

Courtney Connolly is a product manager at FamilySearch. She talks about how she helps create experience to help uses discover their families.

Mike Sandberg has been focused on stories for 7 years now. He shares that story is a universal concept that really connects people from around the world. Everyone loves stories of their ancestors no matter their age or cultural background.

The panel really dives into how FamilySearch works to provide products that appeal to users and increase the user experience on FamilySearch. The site is offered in 31 languages and user input really helps direct where FamilySearch moves in the future.

They also introduce their new product. This is very exciting and has been being worked on for a long time by a lot of people. This is the new ancestor page. This is the one stop location for your ancestors’ names, stories, family chart, and combines all this information so it is easier to understand and share. There are ancestor pages for 60 million people! This is such an exciting tool that is going to make learning about your ancestors and your story a lot easier!

Ultimately, FamilySearch is focused on building connections between families and users. It helps people become part of something bigger than themself.

Finally, each member of the panel shares one of their favorite family stories and why it matters to them. These stories really can help connect you to your history and understand your families better.
