In this episode I explore how the demands of visual storytelling hold the capabilities of cinema back. How it’s maxims imagine it an impossibility to enjoy a movie simply for the pleasure of looking. It seems that when one watches a visual story, there can be no place for wonder, beauty, or much of anything outside of the text. Why? And how come the storytellers hate beautiful, indulgent images for their own sake? Why don’t they have taste? Let’s see if we can find out!
